Describe a time you were friendly to someone you did not like

  • When and where it happened
  • Who he or she was
  • Why you didn’t like this person

and explain why you were friendly to him on that occasion.

I am gregarious and very social. I helped several people in many walks of my life but I would like to talk about the incident when I helped one person whom I didn’t like at all.

I guess it’s more than a decade when I went for my final year exam of my graduation in Nagpur. I found that the most notorious student of our batch whose name was Amit was standing in the middle of the road asking for a lift just before the examination as my college was in the outskirts of the city and it’s a very lonely place and that’s why there was nobody on the street whom one could take help.

Not even me but also many other students didn’t like that person because he always tried to fight with every other student. He had bad habits of smoking as well as drinking alcohol. He, sometimes, brought alcohol in the class room too. In addition, he even misbehaved with teachers on several occasions and due to these reasons, nobody liked him.

When I saw him asking for a lift, I thought it was an exam day and he might probably need my help. So, I stopped me vehicle and gave him a lift and dropped him near the examination hall. While leaving, he thanked me and I suppose it was the first moment when I saw him friendly with anyone in the entire graduation period.

[Notes: You may have come across many such incidents in your life in which you helped someone. However, it has generally seen that many people helped someone in the past that they liked or helped stranger – whom you didn’t know. If that is the case, you can cook-up the story that you helped a person whom you knew and you didn’t like him/her because of his/her bad habits just like the one which I cooked for posting here.]

Follow up questions in Part 3:

Tip for Part 3:

Practice to answer the above questions, your answer should have at least 4-5 sentences or you should speak at length for about 50-60 seconds fluently as this round runs for at least 4-5 minutes and the examiner would like to ask about 4-5 follow-up questions related to similar topic but this time, s/he would like to cover the bigger horizon say world, or people, or television, or any other occasion.
